Public Safety

To achieve its goals of promoting, developing, and encouraging opportunities for residents and businesses in the area, Houston Southeast is moving forward on a number of projects that are vital to the community’s well-being. These illustrate the commitment to fostering growth and making neighborhoods better, safer, more visible, and even more beautiful. They include:

Programs

Constable and Bike Patrol

The District employs 7 constables and 14 off duty HPD officers to ensure the safety of business owners and constituents of Houston Southeast. The bike patrol officers patrol all economic corridors, parks, and major thoroughfares.

Anti-Gang Workshops

Houston Southeast host bi-annually anti-gang workshops at high schools and middle schools throughout the district. The workshops are targeted for at-risk middle and high school students, and their parents.

Emergency Preparedness Workshops

Houston Southeast has partnered with the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management to conduct regular seminars in the community. The seminars update, inform, and prepare the community for District-wide emergency situations. Its purpose is to minimize the potential human loss or injury and property damage from a disaster or emergency situation, reduce losses and interruptions to business, resident and governmental activity, and to function in concert with regional emergency management actions.

Fire Safety Program

Houston Southeast host fire safety workshops 6 times a year with The Houston Fire Department. The Fire Safety Workshop consists of fire safety presentation and the distribution of smoke alarms.

Coffee with a Cop

Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together–over coffee–to discuss issues and learn more about each other.

Graffiti Log of Incidence

Houston Southeast staff logs graffiti incidences on a monthly basis.

Comprehensive Public Safety Plan

We are in the process of developing plans for a strategic, effective program to target crime in the area. This includes, but is not limited to, efforts to enhance our current bike patrol program, and will further underscore Houston Southeast’s focus on preserving and protecting the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
