Beyoncé who proudly reps that Third Ward, hasn’t forgotten her home

Beyoncé wasn’t the only celebrity making her way to Houston this weekend—Janet Jackson stopped by the George R. Brown Convention Center for a tour from the mayor before her Saturday night concert (she’s also donating the proceeds), Jennifer Garner handed out donations to Harvey survivors during a visit to Hilliard Elementary with Save the Children, and Bethenny Frankel and her B Strong Foundation joined Dress for Success to provide resources to women affected by the storm.

But Queen B, traveling with her mother Tina Knowles Lawson, daughter Blue Ivy and Destiny’s Child member Michelle Knowles made the trip feel personal and inspiring in a way that few other stars could.

On Friday, Bey, Miss Tina and Blue returned to their Houston church, St. John’s Church, where she took the stage alongside her mother and pastor Rudy Rasmus to share some heartfelt words with the Harvey survivors assembled.

“I just wanna say that I’m home,” she said. “This church is my home. I was maybe 9 or 10 years old the first time I sat there where my daughter is sitting. I sang my first solo here and I just wanna thank you for lifting my family up, for praying for me, and for being such an incredible example of what light and love is. This today is a celebration of survival. Y’all are my family. Houston is my home. I thank God that you’re safe, your children are safe. I think that really matters is your health and your children and your family. I just wanna say I love you. I’ve been blessed so that I can bless other people and I ask of God to continue to do that for other people.”
