Juneteenth (June 19), or Freedom Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States in 1865. While it has since been observed annually in various parts of the country, the day was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.
