Looking for an Unusual Gift? Try the Gift Shop at Houston Museum of Natural Science

Someone on your shopping list with a Ross Geller love of dinosaurs? Or the girl friend might take a shine to some Victorian inspired jewelry. Or maybe the young ones need a new plushy or an educational board game? You can find all of this and more at the gift shop at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

“What better way to spread cheer than with unique and meaningful gifts for those loved ones this holiday season?” asks Latha Thomas, Sr. VP Marketing and Retail Operations. “Each item in our Museum Store tells a story, shares a piece of history, and sparks creativity. From handcrafted jewelry to exquisite mineral and paleontological specimens, to out-of-this-world plush toys, you’re sure to find something special with our curated collection. As you wander through the store, you’ll find that there’s something truly magical about finding the perfect present!”

How about this gorgeous agate, a form of quartz known for its circular banding? It forms in layers over millions of years as groundwater with mineral impurities drips into empty spaces in volcanic and metamorphic rock. The different colors in the layers are due to different concentrations of minerals that form that layer. If you look at geodes, you’ll notice that the base or outside of the geode is composed of agate. The inky blue agate on stand runs $495-$2,800.

Looking for unusual jewelry? Dana Kellin is inspired by ancient and historic jewelry techniques and forms, such as the Byzantine focus on gemstones and the use of filigree in Victorian jewels. With nearly thirty years in business, Kellin’s brand has become synonymous with artistry and elegance. Her collections are not just jewelry but wearable works of art that reflect a legacy of passion and innovation. As she continues to explore new creative avenues, her timeless designs remain as captivating and relevant as ever, bridging the gap between the past and the future of jewelry-making. Priced $152-$710.

For the little ones, this cool stuffed plush Earth toy lets them hold the entire world. Covered in 71% water (or blue), this stuffed planet has green and white spots to really create the illusion of viewing the Earth from space. It might not have the 7,900-mile diameter of the actual planet, but that’s a good thing, as now you can give the world to your favorite child. Best of all, the world is just $39.95.

In a hurry? The Museum even offers curbside pick-up for your online order, although you might want to shop in person and check out some exhibits. There is Death by Natural Causes — did you know mushrooms, snakes, spiders, and even common foods can do you in? Not for the faint of heart, or see King Tuts Tomb or Sharks! The Meg, The Monsters & The Myth.

And you can always give the gift of a membership to the museum, something they will enjoy all year long.
