If you want delicious, yet healthy, eats, fresh-brewed coffee, and some nostalgic tunes, this Houston Southeast spot for daily brunch and weekend nights is the place for you.

Welcome to Mo’ Brunch and Brews, where the coffee is hot, and the music is cool. With its funky vibe and vegan menu, the place has a distinct Austin vibe, but it’s right here in the middle of the Museum area. Husband and wife team of Chasitie and Courtney Lindsay, who also own the Houston Sauce Co. and Houston Sauce Pit, are behind the 100 percent vegan coffee shop. Mo’ Brunch and Brews marries the couple’s love of vinyl and vegan. On Southmore Boulevard, the spot is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Fridays and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can drop in for brunch and enjoy some freshly brewed drip coffee or maybe delight in  cold brew or a matcha latte. Vegan milk options include oat, soy, almond, and coconut.

But then there’s the food. Even lovers of meat may find that these dishes tasty and satisfying. To go along with their love of vinyl records, which spin in the background, the menu items bear names such as Coltrane Croissant Sandwich a breakfast sandwich with French fries and the Motown Monte — a deep-fried “ham” and “cheese” topped with a delicious blueberry compote. They even have their own version of chili con queso, vegan, of course, and it’s topped with impossible meat and pico de gallo. That comes with housemade chips and makes a great starter for the Brunch Tacos, particularly the hot honey mushroom version. In fact, mushrooms make a strong appearance on the menu with choices such as the Hot Honey Shrooms & Grits, made of chicken-fried mushrooms tossed in a hot honey syrup, and the Smokey Rob flatbread pizza with smoked oyster mushrooms drizzled with truffle oil.

Neighbors pop in Friday through Sunday in the evenings to listen to DJs spinning vintage vinyl and enjoy the beer on tap and wine selections along with some Cauliwings which are a perfectly fine substitute for chicken wings. You won’t even realize you are eating cauliflower when it’s roasted and coated like this and dipped in buffalo sauce. Parking can be tight, but they do have a nice-sized patio for alfresco dining, and they cater. Overall, for taste and price, this is one of the best vegan venues in Houston.
