Houston Southeast is a strong advocate for public art and honoring legacy in our community. In our partnership with UpArt Studios and the Big Walls Big Dreams Festival, we thought it prudent to honor two of our trailblazers, Judge Zinetta Burney and Sheila Jackson Lee.

Judge Zinetta Burney served as a visionary leader, respected judge, and advocate for equality, serving Houston’s most vulnerable communities.

As a U.S. representative, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee spent decades advocating for civic rights, equality, and justice. She championed impactful legislation and fought for social justice and Houston’s most vulnerable communities.

The mural is located on the corner of Almeda Road and Ruth Street.
