Where’s the Beef? If it’s lunchtime in Houston Southeast, try Granger’s

Hard to believe now, in a city with such a renowned and diverse culinary scene, but once-upon-a-time Houston dining was pretty much comprised of Tex-Mex eateries, barbeque joints, and Texas steakhouses. We still have those but finding a great steak, particularly at lunchtime, isn’t as easy as it used to be.

Enter Granger’s, the newest concept from Ryan and Josie Granger’s HTX Restaurant and Catering Group, which includes Fia’s Pizzeria which offers create-your-own salads and pizzas with either regular or Cauliflower crust, and Bodegas Taco Shop, home to tacos, great salsas, and really, really good margaritas. There’s also their Park Grill catering, all located on the first floor of a Museum District office building on Binz Street.

“We’ve been in the restaurant space for several decades and this project is something Josephine and I poured our hearts and souls into. We are passionate about food and have a strong desire to create an unparalleled dining experience for our community,” Ryan Granger said in a news release.

This beautiful 7,000-square-foot spot looks upscale yet it’s casual vibe means you’ll feel at home coming from a morning at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Hermann Park; or as doctor’s visit at the Texas Medical Center.

“There are different sections with different feelings,” said one diner. “You can pick your experience.” Everything from a bar scene to cozy dining rooms — one even decorated to look like a library, private party rooms, and a spacious tree-shaded patio.

While the Gulf Coast seafood shines, this is the kind of place where you can get everything from caviar and chips to their Cowboy Burger. But it’s the steaks here that are really impressive. You can get a New York strip with pomme frites for lunch for just $38. If your budget and appetite are larger, there is a 16 once prime ribeye with whipped horseradish potatoes at $68 and a perfect 8 once filet mignon at $58.

Open for lunch and dinner daily, you might want to grab some friends and come in the evening for the Baller Board. Two hundred and fifty-five dollars may sound a little pricey, but just listen to what is on it: the filet mignon, the New York strip, and the ribeye, plus those creamy potatoes, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, Oscar sauce, a Merlot demiglace, and steakhouse mushrooms. Now that’s a feast of meat. Add a glass of bubbly or one of the signature cocktails to wash it down. A nice list of bourbons includes Knob Hill and the Woodford Reserve which would really go with the popular bourbon pecan pie, if you still have room for dessert. Offers both street and valet parking.
